News on Fisherrow’s water quality.

11 Nov 2019 by Gaynor Allen

Just giving everyone a brief resume of what happened at the last meeting of the South East Scotland Bathing Water Stakeholder group, attended by Pauline and Gaynor. We have both attended these meetings for a few years now and this year's designation is important as we have had a run of poor classifications and if this year is another poor (which looks likely) Fisherrow will lose it's status as a designated bathing water beach.
The most important thing is that the classification for Fisherrow Sands (or any other beaches in Scotland) have not been issued yet and will not be released until December. The readings are not looking good for Fisherrow to get anything higher than another poor rating. Work is still being done, particularly on the Brunstane Burn, where most of the pollution comes from. Most of the problem is from human waste.
Please get in touch if you have any questions. Pauline and I may call for another meeting of the group if we are going to lose the bathing water status as we think this would demand a few answers from SEPA and SW.
Thanks, Gaynor and Pauline
